THE GENTLE RAIN // Poem by Madhu Mehrotra
All night through the thoughts
cloud the sleep
as dreams
as nightmares
twisting, turning
catching the inward eye
heavy on the heart
the clouds of thoughts
unsaid, unfulfilled
unthought, unseen
fill the mind
loss, despair
unwanted loneliness
rage as lightning flashes
the sounds submerged
in the clouds of thought
the light breaks
through the darkness
the winged creatures
sing in melodies
given by generations
the eye opens
the clouds of thoughts
disappear, vanish in thin air
it's a new morn
it's a new day
the glistening dew
the sun faced flower
the gentle blue sky
a gurgling water stream
over the rustling leaves
settle on the inward eye
a moment of gentle rain
washes the clouds of thought
away, away to endless time
a reminder
all is but a
flash in eternity
now here, now gone.
The author has lived her life in the hills.
A flash in eternity, now here, now gone.
