REVERIE (POETRY BY BABA AISHA MUHAMMAD)

 REVERIE

I smell him from afar, the weather before rain
Or maybe, have I gone insane?

To my long lost first love,
To our eyes that never met
Or maybe just not yet.

In a time hearts first learnt how to beat, mine was asleep,
Even if our hearts never meet
This feeling grows too deep

Your laughter was a song to me, melody of purest glee
A heart full of joy and spree

I want to tell stories looking into your eyes
Feeling a love that never dies

How do I say I'm in love with you?
My heart beats fast, my love anew

So now I'll let these feelings flee,
For now I know we will never be

I've come to a stop that we will never be,
Because even in my dreams, you were never mine.
