The Country and the Song — Call For Submissions 

Theme: 

In a world wrestling with ebbs and flows, every nation tells a story: of struggle, survival, and a burning cigarette of hope that refuses to die. The Country and the Song seeks to amplify these voices, capturing the complex emotions of a world caught between despair, injustice, hardship and determination. Whether it’s the echo of protests in the streets, the silent endurance of communities on the brink, or the quiet resolve of those who still believe in change, we want to hear it all.

We are calling for poems, short stories, flash fiction, and essays/articles that reflect on the state of nations around the globe—particularly Africa and other nations  facing adversity. Your work should explore the realities of injustice, hardship, and endurance while guiding readers toward a glimmer of hope. End on a note that reminds us why we continue to believe, dream, and fight.

Submission Guidelines:

1. Eligibility: Open to writers worldwide. Submissions are welcome from established and emerging voices.

2. Genres Accepted: Poetry, short stories, flash fiction, and essays/articles.

3. Word Limit:

○ Poetry: Up to 40 lines (maximum of 2 poems).

○ Short Stories: Up to 1,500 words.

○ Flash Fiction: 500 to 700 words.

○ Essays/Articles: Up to 1,000 words.

4. Submission Format:

○Send in your work in the body of an e-mail as plain text. No documents please. 

○Make sure to state clearly in the subject of  your mail, the category you’re submitting to. Poetry, fiction, or nonfiction.

○ Include a brief bio of 50-100 words  in a third-person point of view (We encourage our contributors to provide their social media handles)

5. Submission Deadline: 30th June , 2025

All submissions should be sent to wordsempiremagazine@gmail.com with the subject bearing the genre you’re submitting to.
