THE GHOST'S EMBRACE || THE SHADOW OF A GHOST (POETRY BY EMMANUEL CHIDERA CHIMEZIE

THE GHOST'S EMBRACE

Love is like a butterfly—

it perches on the eye, then fades away;

its wings—a cemetery of chemistry.

Like a wolf, it preys upon my heart,

with thoughts that pierce the silence—sharp and gray.

As I sleep—and awake, I bore a chained book,

torn and forlorn, by a hollow nook.

My pillow whispers, "You are a ghost in my veins,"

the mirror crumbles—a shattered dream.

THE SHADOW OF A GHOST

I postulate my body in a book,

Carved with needles, piercing and snarling,

A cruel testament.

My needle, a parchment—rooted and branched.

I’m left to ponder by the mysterious beast,

Kneeling to chants: 'My mum is a nun.'

Before me, the demon lingers…

I hear echoes whispering, wailing, 'You are a monster.'

I write in sand, destined for stone.

I am torn in pieces—a testament of sackcloth.
